Who Can Submit and What We Publish

Insuficiencia Cardiaca welcomes submissions from clinicians, researchers, and health professionals working in cardiology and cardiovascular medicine, with a special focus on heart failure and related conditions.

The journal considers:

  • Original research articles
  • Review articles (narrative or systematic)
  • Case reports and case series
  • Short communications / brief reports
  • Clinical images
  • Editorials and commentaries (usually invited)
  • Guidelines, consensus statements, and position papers
  • Letters to the editor

Accepted File Formats

To make submission as simple as possible, the journal accepts manuscripts prepared in:

  • Any standard word-processing format (e.g. .doc, .docx).
  • LaTeX (submit a compiled PDF for review; source files may be requested after acceptance).

There is no required template at submission. Authors may use any reasonable, clear format. After acceptance,
the editorial office will take responsibility for copy-editing, formatting, and typesetting according to the journal’s style.

What to Include in Your Submission Email

When submitting a manuscript by email, please include:

  • Subject line: clearly indicate the journal and article type, for example:
“Submission – Original Article – Insuficiencia Cardiaca” or
“Submission – Case Report – Insuficiencia Cardiaca”.
  • Cover letter (attached as a separate file or written in the email body), briefly stating:
    • The title and type of article.
    • The main contribution or novelty of the work.
    • Why the manuscript is suitable for Insuficiencia Cardiaca.
    • A declaration that the work is original, not under review elsewhere, and all authors approve the submission.
    • Key information on ethics approvals, patient consent, and conflicts of interest.
  • Manuscript file (Word or PDF for LaTeX submissions), including:
    • Title page (with all authors, affiliations, and corresponding author details).
    • Abstract and keywords.
    • Main text (Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, as appropriate).
    • References.
    • Tables and figure legends (they can be at the end of the file).
  • Figures: you may embed them in the manuscript for review. High-resolution separate files
(TIFF, PNG, JPEG) can be provided after acceptance, if needed.
  • Any supplementary files (e.g. additional tables, appendices, extended methods), clearly labeled.

Language and Manuscript Preparation

The journal accepts manuscripts in Spanish or English (and, in selected cases, Portuguese).
Authors should ensure that the text is clear and understandable. Perfect formatting is not required at submission;
scientific quality, clarity, and completeness are the priorities.

Please consult our Guide for Authors for detailed recommendations on:

  • Article types and suitable structure.
  • Suggested word limits for each manuscript category.
  • Reference style (numbered citations).
  • Ethical requirements and reporting standards.

Ethics, Conflicts of Interest, and Funding

All submissions must comply with the journal’s Publication Ethics policy. Authors are expected to:

  • Confirm that the manuscript is original and not under consideration by another journal.
  • Ensure appropriate ethics committee / IRB approval and informed consent for human research,
and adherence to animal welfare standards where applicable.
  • Protect patient privacy and confidentiality in all text and images.
  • Disclose all conflicts of interest and all sources of funding for the study.

Statements on ethics approval, informed consent, conflicts of interest, and funding should be clearly presented in the manuscript.

Peer Review and Editorial Process

All manuscripts undergo an initial evaluation by the editorial team. Suitable submissions are then sent out for
single-blind peer review (reviewers see authors’ names; authors do not see reviewers’ identities).

The typical process includes:

  • Initial editorial screening for scope, quality, and ethical compliance.
  • External peer review by expert reviewers.
  • Editorial decision (accept, minor revision, major revision, or reject).
  • Possible rounds of revision and re-evaluation.
  • Final acceptance, followed by copy-editing, layout, and online publication.

Under normal circumstances, the journal aims to complete the process from submission to online publication in approximately
four months, depending on reviewer availability and the extent of revisions.

Copy-Editing and Formatting After Acceptance

Once a manuscript is accepted:

  • The editorial office will perform scientific and language copy-editing.
  • The article will be formatted and typeset according to the journal’s layout.
  • Authors will receive proofs to check for typographical errors and minor corrections.

Authors are responsible for reviewing and approving the proofs promptly so that the article can be published without unnecessary delay.

Insuficiencia Cardiaca is a diamond open access journal:

  • No submission fees or article processing charges (APCs) are required.
  • All published articles are freely available online to readers worldwide.

Authors retain copyright to their work and grant the journal a non-exclusive licence to publish it under a
